URBAN STUDIES FOUNDATION
EARLY CAREER POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP SCHEME

The Research Institute of Geography and Lived Environment, School of Geosciences, at the University of Edinburgh welcomes expressions of interest from potential applicants to the Urban Studies Foundation ‘Postdoctoral Research Fellowship’ scheme.

Urban Studies Foundation (USF) Postdoctoral Fellowships are hosted at a specified university, with a named academic mentor, based on a programme of research designed and executed by the early career fellow. Fellowships can be up to three years in length, offering funds sufficient to cover salary costs and a research budget.

A fellowship research programme should involve original empirical inquiry, methodological rigour and conceptual innovation, set within a detailed knowledge of relevant existing research and scholarship. The expectation is that a Fellow will publish outputs from this research in the international Urban Studies (and cognate) literature, as well as taking seriously possibilities for achieving impact beyond the academy.

Expressions of interest can complement and extend our existing areas of research activity in the Research Institute of Geography and the Lived Environment:

- Urban Governance

Potential applicants are invited to supply the following EoI materials for consideration:

- outline of proposed USF postdoctoral research programme (2 pages max.)
- curriculm vitae (3 pages max.)
- indication of potential academic mentor

Expression of Interest materials should be submitted by 3pm Friday 27th September 2019 to ResearchOrg.Geos@ed.ac.uk

EoI materials will be reviewed by an institutional Evaluation Panel. Applicants will be informed of outcomes by Thursday 3rd October 2019.

Candidates selected to ready full application materials will work together with an identified academic mentor on the final submission made to the Urban Studies Foundation by October 21st 2019.
